The Custom Homebuilding Process

The Custom Homebuilding Process

Ashley Builders Group

If you were to ask Jason Yeager, a partner at Ashley Builders Group, what is the first question a customer asks his instant reply is,  “Tell us the Ashley custom home building process?” Of course, budget and deciding where you want to build are essential; but the builder’s process of building a custom home is at the top of the list.  Ashley Builders Group has been in business for over 45 years and has created a streamlined process based on customer input. They have successfully built a solid reputation in the communities where they build and are the leading custom home  builder in the region.

The Ashley Group Custom home building process:

  • Picking a location and selecting your homesite are the first steps to designing your custom home.  Everything starts with the property: orientation, how the sun rises and sets, topography, and the natural features of the site all play a vital role in the design of your custom home.  Ashley is always available to assist with a free site evaluation,
  • Financing your custom home is usually handled by the customer.  Check several lenders but, once you decide, the lender will take you through the standard loan qualification process.  You will be supplying personal financial information for the loan. Once your financing is approved construction, will begin.  Ashley Builders Group coordinates with the lender and will “draw” from the loan over the period it will take to construct your home.  If needed Ashley Builders Group is happy to supply a list of lenders.
  • Designing your home… customers bring in plans from the internet, may have a rough sketch, or just know what it is they want and need help turning their ideas into a drawing.  Ashley can help. Ashley Builders Group has teamed with award-winning Architects/Designers who will spend time with you turning your dream into reality.

Once the customer is comfortable with the plan, a preliminary cost estimate is prepared.  This step usually takes 2-3 weeks. This is a crucial phase as it allows the customer to review the plan and see how it fits into their budget.  At this stage, revisions are usually made, such as size reductions, specifications changes, or enlarging the plan. This preliminary cost estimate becomes the base that both the customer and Ashley work from.

When revisions are complete, the plan will be returned to the Architect/Designer for final architectural drawings.  These drawings usually take 2-3 weeks. When the final plan is complete, estimators work up final “job costs,” which become the contract price.  Signing the contract is next, and a building permit is applied for. The usual time frame for a building permit is 7-10 days. Upon receiving the building permit, Ashley invites the customer to walk the homesite to determine house placement, to discuss grade concerns, address green space, and other ideas or questions the customer may have.

  • Construction… once financing is in place and contracts are signed, a preconstruction meeting is held.  The customer is introduced to their selection coordinator and field superintendent. Customer home plans and the construction process are reviewed with the team allowing the customer to express their expectations.

Ashley Builders Group appreciates its customers and is proud of its customer service.  The entire Ashley Team looks forward to building custom homes for many years to come.
